U14 team dominates at the first Croatian Cup tournament.
Zagreb, Savica – 25.-26. listopada 2025.
The first round of the Croatian Rugby Cup for the U14 category took place last weekend at Savica in Zagreb, featuring rugby clubs from all over Croatia. The tournament brought together Rugby Club Zagreb, Rugby Club Sinj, RK Nada (Split), a mixed team from Novi Zagreb and Sisak, as well as mixed teams from Lokomotiva and Dubrovnik, and from Mladost and Dubrovnik.
Day One of the Tournament – Convincing Wins for Zagreb
On Saturday, Zagreb’s team played two demanding matches. The first game featured a clash with the always-dangerous Nada from Split — a team well known for its fighting spirit and solid defense. Despite strong resistance from the Split side, the young Zagreb players displayed excellent ball control and tactical maturity. With a series of well-executed attacks and some impressive individual plays, Zagreb secured a convincing 20–5 victory.
After a short break, Zagreb continued their excellent form against the mixed team of Novi Zagreb and Sisak. In this match as well, the Zagreb side confirmed their dominance on the field. The combined team tried to put up a fight, but Zagreb proved too strong in all aspects of the game. Quick ball movement, solid support play, and precise execution led to a convincing 25–10 victory.
With two wins in the bag, the Zagreb team ended the first day of the tournament on a high note and headed into a well-deserved rest full of optimism ahead of Sunday’s final.
Day Two – The Road to the Final
Zagreb kicked off Sunday with a match against the mixed team of Lokomotiva and Dubrovnik. Their third opponent also had no answer to the constant pressure and smooth ball movement of the Zagreb side. The players demonstrated exceptional tactical discipline, playing smart and strategically while exploiting every weakness in their opponents’ defense. The 30–5 result secured Zagreb a spot in the grand final of the first round.
Final – A Masterclass Performance
In the final, Zagreb faced the excellent and always formidable Rugby Club Sinj, a team that had also delivered strong performances throughout the tournament. However, the Zagreb players were unfazed. They entered the match with energy and determination, clearly intent on dominating from start to finish.
From the very first minutes, it was clear that Zagreb was playing their best rugby of the tournament. They moved the ball with exceptional speed, found gaps in Sinj’s defense, and fully capitalized on their strengths. At the same time, their solid defense prevented Sinj from developing any real attacking momentum. By the end of the first half, Zagreb was already leading 15–0.
The second half was a continuation of Zagreb’s dominance. After some motivational and tactical guidance from the coach, the team carried on with their excellent play. Three more tries sealed the game, bringing the final score to 30–0 — a display of complete dominance in the tournament’s most important match.
Conclusion
By winning the first round of the Croatian Cup, the young players of RK Zagreb proved themselves to be a serious and promising team with great potential. Four victories in four matches, along with an impressive points differential, stand as a testament to the excellent work of the coaches, whose expertise and dedication have shaped a disciplined and competitive squad.
Special mention should be made of the team spirit, tactical discipline, and determination to win that the young rugby players displayed throughout the entire weekend. This victory is not just a momentary success but also a promising sign for the future of Zagreb rugby.
Congratulations to all the teams that took part in the tournament — and especially to our coaches and players of Rugby Club Zagreb!
Bab Šik!
